West Road’s Music

Intent, Implementation

and Impact Statement

The music curriculum ensures students sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate. This is embedded in the classroom through the implementation of the Kapow scheme.  All children have the opportunity to play the recorder and glockenspiel as well as take part in weekly singing assemblies.

Our year 3 and 4 children have their music lessons delivered from the Doncaster Music Service through their First Access course. This year they are learning key musical skills whilst learning to play the Ukulele.

Children have many opportunities throughout their school life to get involved with lots of different musical events such as carol concerts, BFLPT music events and musical plays throughout the year.

As a school we provide opportunities for children in KS2 to learn to play the guitar and trumpet with the Doncaster Music Service and perform to an audience.

All children have the choice of joining the school choir and performing within the local community.
