Year 5/6 Spring Curriculum Letter
Welcome back to Spring Term 2.
At the time of writing, we are unable to provide further details of when the school will reopen for all pupils. In the meantime, we will continue with the online learning.
Please see the ‘Topic Web’ for more detail of what we will be learning this term.
Year 6 pupils will be spending some of their lessons doing transitional work, preparing for secondary school. This will be done with the Y5/6 teachers, but we also hope to have input from visiting speakers.
Year 5 pupils will continue with their ‘catch-up’ curriculum ready for moving into Year 6.

School learners – please make sure your child has their PE kit in school (indoor and outdoor and appropriate footwear). If it is easier, encourage your child to bring their PE kit on a Monday and take it home on a Friday.
We will let you know about Y5 swimming, once we find out more information on it restarting.
We appreciate that you are extremely busy, but reading at home with a parent, carer, older sibling or friend, is so important for all our children. It strengthens their confidence, fluency and inference skills and backs up the important work we do at school. So please make time to hear your child read. Please do not forget to sign in their reading diary each time your child reads. We expect the children to read a minimum of 3 times per week at home.
If you are learning at home, there are a range of online reading resources that may be useful:
Please continue to encourage your child to complete activities online using Spelling Shed.
We expect all our children to join their handwriting and we will be practising regularly in class. If there is any opportunity at home where you could reinforce and practise handwriting that would be a great help.
There are many grammar websites available for the children to practise spelling and grammar at home, here are just a few:
Homework will be handed out every week. Please encourage your child to complete any homework given. It really does make a difference to your child’s progress within school.
If you need to speak to any of the phase 5/6 team, please email (using the class email addresses) or ring the office to make an appointment.
