Dolphins

Year 2 website information:

Welcome back – we hope you had a fantastic summer holiday!

Our topic in year 2 this half term is Street detectives.

During this topic the children will learn about Moorends and what it looked like a long time ago. They will use maps of the local area, look at changes over time and think about how to improve Moorends.

The children will visit Cusworth Hall and experience what life was like living there long ago.

PE

Our PE sessions are on a Thursday afternoon but please can kits be kept in school during each half term.

Spellings:

Weekly spellings will be sent out every Friday. They are based on the Year 2 common exception words and Year 2 spelling patterns. Please help your child practise these each week. They will be tested on a Friday and scores will be sent home.

Reading:

We are continuing with the whole school drive on improving reading. To help with this please ensure you read with your child at home. If your child reads at least three times a week they will become a reader leader and receive a reward.

Our topic next term is going to be Land Ahoy with a big focus on pirates! We are really excited and to start the topic we are having a pirate workshop day, were the children will learn about pirates, watch a pirate puppet show and create their own pirate puppet. If you have any spare time over Christmas you could maybe have a search online for some famous pirates.

Our P.E session is on a Tuesday afternoon, please could all children have a full P.E kit in school on this day as we have very few spare kits.

We are continuing our Reader Leader Challenge this year, children need to read at least 3 times a week and they will receive a small prize and a sticker on the chart. Please sign your child’s reading diary to show that your child has read. Well done to all those reader leaders this term.

As well as reading three time a week, children will also receive spellings and a piece of numeracy homework each Friday. Spellings should be practised throughout the week ready for the spelling test on a Friday. Homework needs to be completed and handed in by the following Friday.
